At The Edge Of The Coulee

The Upper Hat Creek Valley in south western B.C. lies in the rain shadow of the coast range. The open grasslands and dry creek beds in September are an inviting place to paint, especially for a guy who spends most of the year painting coastal landscapes. I have returned to the valley in the fall to paint for several years and have got to know several of the local ranchers. This scene was inspired at the end of a day when the riders were returning from a cattle drive.
