Combers Beach: Sand Dunes and Ravens

Sunny days in the summer on the outer coast are most often accompanied by strong north westerly winds. On sandy beaches the winds dry out sand and steadily blow it into dunes. In the middle of Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park there are some dramatic dunes. The size and shape of these changes slightly each year as grasses try to establish themselves on this shifting surface. I painted this scene on location on a windy day and was surprised at how much fine sand ended up stuck in my palette.
