Lismer Bay II: Winter Storm
Released 2007
The exposed west coast of Vancouver Island can be a dynamic place in winter. I am always excited by the late winter afternoon light as a storm front is breaking up. The sun often first peaks through just at the horizon a few minutes before sunset and sets the saturated sea air ablaze with glowing warmth. Lismer Bay is in Pacific Rim National Park and is a local name for a small cove where the late artist Arthur Lismer, of the Canadian Group of Seven, used to paint in summers during his eighties. In the mid nineteen eighties I worked for National Parks and would often take breaks at the end of the day observing the way the ocean worked in various types of lighting at this location.
