Sansum Narrows: Where Eagles Soar

The location of this scene is from the east side of Vancouver Island in British Columbia where steep cliffs drop to a turbulent narrows between Salt Spring Island and the larger Vancouver Island. The morning light in winter is often very dramatic as it penetrates the layers of mist that form in the narrows. The moss-covered cliffs with arbutus trees (also called Madrone) were fun to paint in the foreground but the mood is set by the rising mists where I used a sponge to quickly move the paint around before it dried.
