Sitka Spruce and Abalone Feather with Soapstone Stand

Artist: George Yearsley

George Yearsley first connected to the eagle feather on his many hikes and wilderness explorations in British Columbia. The feathers he discovered connected him to the old growth forests that he sought out for solace and spiritual sustenance. During his early days in Tofino, George worked in home-building, but spent every weekend and all of his spare time at Henry Nolla’s carving shed, learning from Henry, not only about carving, but about life and a more peaceful and simple way to live it. Eventually, George quit his job to carve at Henry’s full time.

George uses reclaimed or salvaged wood, including red cedar, yellow cedar and maple for all of his carvings.
