Glaucous Winged Gulls: Sunset Breeze

For several years a gull has taken up residence at my floathouse studio during the winter months. I call him the “Head Honcho” since he totally dominates all other gulls in the area. He has become relatively tame and when he and his mate were in their new breeding plumage I could not resist painting them as they posed together on the top of the woodshed on a windy spring evening. I chose this backdrop, with an evening light on a windswept beach to give the sense of motion as their few feathers catch the breeze.
