Sea Otters Return

In the early 1970s sea otters from Amchitka Island, Alaska were reintroduced to the west coast of Vancouver Island. Almost extinct after a century of exploitation by the fur trade only a few remnant pockets of population remained in the early 1900s. This painting celebrates the sea otter’s steady increase in numbers as they are now returning to their former homeland.
