Trumpeter Swans: Preening Time
Released 2013
Once precariously near extinction, Trumpeter Swans now over-winter in the thousands in coastal inlets and the farmlands of south western B.C. One pair has been returning each November to a remote marsh near my studio. One sunny winter morning they calmly preened while I photographed them. I was intrigued by the light patterns bouncing up under their bellies and the way the ripples of light radiated across the shallow bottom of the pond. They took turns watching while the other preened as I have shown here.
