Bald Eagle: Soaring The Splash Zone

Released 2017

Located over a hundred kilometres from the mainland of Canada’s west coast, Haida Gwaii (also known as the Queen Charlotte Islands) receives the full impact of the swells coming across the North Pacific. On the west side of the Islands the salt spray from crashing waves keeps the rocks free of vegetation for up to 20 meters above the tideline. I wanted to capture the feeling of this high energy coastline. Rather than painting a big explosion of spray, I felt the sense of power was better conveyed by a wall of green water as it surged up the cliff face. When the ocean surface is tilted it is certainly not at rest. Bald eagles are almost the most frequently seen bird along these rugged shores and this one adds an important point of interest to the scene.

Complimentary shipping is available on all original and giclée reproduction artworks to the majority of Canadian and U.S. mainland addresses. A gallery representative will confirm with you if your order is eligible.
