Black Bear: Tranquil River
Autumn on the B.C. coast is my favorite season. The air is saturated with moisture from the frequent rains and the rivers are full of salmon arriving to spawn. Bears, eagles, gulls and a host of other creatures gather to feast on the bounty of the returning fish. Trying to recreate the excitement of this annual event is a frequent theme in my work. Softening the acrylic paint to look like heavy mist in the air is a tricky thing to achieve, but by using a sponge while the paint is still wet the effect is fairly attainable.
