Sea Star: As the Tide Comes In - NEW RELEASE

from CA$400.00

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Edition Year: 2024

Medium: Limited Edition Giclée Print on Canvas

Edition Size: 50

Original Painting Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

Original Painting Size (Inches H x W): 24 × 30

With powerful wave activity and nutrient rich waters the outer coast of Vancouver Island hosts a variety of brilliantly coloured creatures that might look more at home in the tropics. Depicted here are three colour versions of the common ochre sea star and giant green anemones. The return of the tide brings fresh tidbits to the anemones and gooseneck barnacles that rely on the surge of waves to bring them food. The waves though make for tricky living and all the life forms have to hang on for dear life if they are to survive. Trying to portray the dynamic back and forth flow of the waves from below was accomplished by adding, bubbles, surf grass, and fronds of kelp. The shadows created by these sea weeds help give the scene a sense of movement.

What Is A Giclee?

A Giclée (pronounced Gee-Clay) is a digitally reproduced limited edition print which looks very close to an original painting. All of Mark's giclees are printed on canvas which help to give them that ‘real painting’ feel plus do not require glass when framed.

The original painting is scanned which enables the best quality of reproduction as colours are accurate to the original and can even show the detail of brush strokes. It is a much more colour accurate reproduction than those from traditional 4-colour presses, and the inks are long lasting as well as resistant to light deterioration.

Mark's giclée reproductions are limited to editions of 50, thus making the giclee a good investment if the original is unavailable or out of reach financially. Mark personally numbers and resigns each reproduction.

Giclées generally come in small, medium or large with the specific size varying from one giclee to another. Please see each individual artwork for size options and prices.
