Barkley Sound lies immediately south of Ucluelet on Vancouver Island’s outer coast. Dozens of islands make up the Broken Island Archipelago which is an integral part of Pacific Rim National Park. The islands with their tufts of gnarled forest are a painter’s paradise providing interesting perspective; especially, when there is mist in the air. I struggled with this scene because I started out with a different sky colour, then decided that the sun would add a more intriguing focal point. Once I added the brilliance of the sun everything I had painted previously had to be adjusted to accommodate the new lighting conditions.
