Spirit Bears are an unusual version of the normal North American Black Bears. Due to recessive genes they appear totally white but are not considered true albinos. Making up about 15% of the black bear population they exist only in the remote north west coast of British Columbia and have been revered by the First Nation of the area for thousands of years. On a number of occasions I have been lucky enough to see them and have recreated this scene from the Canoonna River on Princess Royal Island.
