American Dipper

CA$9,720.00

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Year: 2024

Image Size (Inches H x W): 40 x 30

Medium & Substrate: Acrylic on Canvas

Frame: Standard Black with Gold Edge (Adds one inch to all sides)

American Dippers are non-descriptive, robin-sized birds with an extraordinary life style. Not only can they swim in fast moving creeks and rivers but they can also grip mossy rocks and pebbles walking underwater in search of insect larvae. Their nest sites are hard to locate since they will frequently build behind waterfalls. The Dipper in this painting is not the first thing you might notice which is very typical of the way theyappear in the wild. Unless they move, their drab, grey colouration makes them almost invisible among the gravel and boulders of the streams they frequent. The more obvious centre of interest, the backlit burst of young sword ferns, was painted to celebrate the sheer beauty of these ubiquitous emblems of west coast rain forests.
